U.S. Sen. Blanche Lincoln, D-Ark., is co-sponsoring a bill that would change how schools are evaluated for adequate yearly progress under the No Child Left Behind education law.

The Enhancing Flexibility for Effective Schools Act would provide changes such as changing the required attendance rate on test days and giving schools greater flexibility in administering assessments to special education students and children who speak English as a second language.

Farmington Superintendent Ron Wright said based on what he has read about the bill, it would make some positive changes for schools.

“It looks like a great beginning,” he said.

“In my opinion, everything that she is proposing is just good common sense,” Elkins Superintendent Mike Harris said.
