Sen. Daniel Inouye, a Hawaii Democrat who has been in the Senate for nearly 47 years, has passed the late Sen. Edward Kennedy, DMass., to become the thirdlongest-serving senator in U.S. history, behind the late Sen. Strom Thurmond, RS.C., and Sen. Robert Byrd, D-W.Va., who holds the record for career longevity.
