Berryville police say a body found in a shallow grave in a field has been identified as that of a man last seen by his family on Sept. 27.

According to a news release from Berryville police, the state Crime Lab identified the remains as those of Christopher Helmlinger.

Police said family members had not seen Helmlinger since Sept. 27 and they reported him missing Oct. 4. Police did not provide Helmlinger’s age.

The shallow grave was discovered Sunday by a passerby.
