Still awful?

Early last spring President Obama talked Congress into spending a whopping $787 billion on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Widely referred to as the federal stimulus package, top economists had hoped that injecting a massive pool of cash into the nation’s public/private sectors would at the very least keep a debilitating recession from getting any worse. While it will ultimately require years of study to judge the worthiness of this historic effort, detractors from coast to coast have derided the stimulus package as an era-defining waste of taxpayer funds.
