City gives away more trees to combat ice storm damage

Isaiah Wilkins, 6, carries a Red maple Saturday after he and his family picked out trees to plant during the Re-LEAF Fayetteville Project on the Fayetteville Square. The city’s Tree and Landscape Advisory Committee and Parks and Recreation and Urban Forestry divisions made 900 trees available to Fayetteville residents in an effort to replenish the town’s urban forest canopy in the wake of the destruction of the January ice storm.
The city of Fayetteville continued its ice storm recovery efforts on Saturday by distributing 900 free trees to members of the public Fayetteville Mayor Lioneld Jordan said the tree giveaway continued the Re-LEAF Fayetteville project, which aims at planting the next generation of trees to replace those lost in the January ice storm.
