Obama assesses Katrina recovery

He sees progress but a lot left to do

Obama leans in for a moment amid the eager children. Obama told the them that the money and attention that went to rebuilding their campus after Hurricane Katrina had turned it into “a school that is doing much better than it ever was doing before the storm.”

President Barack Obama defended his administration Thursday against complaints from some residents of the hurricane-ravaged Gulf Coast that federal help in recovering from the 2005 disasters hasn’t improved much since he took office.
