UA analyst calls decrease in numbers, prices ‘blip’ in recovery

The Arkansas housing market took a downturn in August, when both the average price and number of homes sold fell compared with a year earlier, according to a report Thursday by the Arkansas Realtors Association.
Sales fell 8.9 percent to 2,223. The average sales price in the 42 counties tracked by the association fell 2.5percent to $145,761, the 14th straight month of decline. The counties in the survey make up most of the state’s house market.
In August, sales in Sebastian County, home to Fort Smith in western Arkansas, fell the most among the top five markets, plunging 28.9 percent, to 111 units from 156 a year earlier.
