Dow surpasses 10,000 for first time in a year

But retail sales down in ‘clunker’ effect

Traders on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange watch the Dow cross the 10,000 mark Wednesday.

The Dow Jones industrial average rallied above 10,000 on Wednesday, with gains since springtime erasing about half the damage done by economic troubles since the gauge soared to a record two years ago.
