FAYETTEVILLE Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has been scheduled to speak at the University of Arkansas.
The school announced Olmert will speak Oct. 27 as part of the Distinguished Lecture Series.
He’s expected to talk about the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, the Iranian nuclear program and on the United States’ role in the Middle East peace process. He’ll also answer prepared questions from students at the event.
Olmert became acting prime minister of Israel in 2006 when Prime Minister Ariel Sharon suffered a stroke. Olmert took office as prime minister in May 2006 after new elections and served until 2009.
He stepped down as prime minister during a corruption investigation dating to his years as mayor of Jerusalem. He’s been indicted on a variety of charges and denies all of them.
