Mountain bike championship series sets up Camp

Despite steady rain that began the day before, the singletrack trails at Springhill Park in Barling were relatively dry for the Springhill classic mountain bike race Oct. 4. Still, competitors like Steve Amerson got plenty muddy.
They are clad in colorful jerseys, their helmets fastened tight. Their sunglasses hide darting eyes. Into the woods they will go, quickly, pedaling their special bicycles with fury, bouncing over rocks and roots, manipulating corners and curves, suffering up steep hills and soaring down the other side, trying not to crash into one of those trees or go soaring off the trail.
