LITTLE ROCK — DEAR REV. GRAHAM: Did the miracles in the Bible really happen, or were they just events that people in those days couldn’t understand, although today we can explain them because we look at things scientifi cally?

DEAR R.B.: Yes, the miracles in the Bible really did happen; every attempt to delete them fromthe Bible or explain them away has always ended in failure.
And yes, they really were miracles, and the people who saw them knew it. We sometimes dismiss people who lived 2,000 or 3,000 years ago as ignorant and gullible, but they weren’t, especially when it came to miracles. They lived close to nature - much closer than most of us do - and knew the reality of storms and illness and death. They knew dead people didn’t come back to life and storms didn’t suddenly stop, not unless God was at work.
And that’s one reason why miracles took place: They pointed to God and His power. They also were like signposts pointing to Jesus as the only Savior, sent by God to bring us our salvation. On one occasion Jesus told His enemies, “Even though you do not believe me, believe the miracles, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me” (John 10:38).
The greatest miracle of all, however, was Jesus’ resurrection from the dead. By it Jesus conquered death and hell and sin and Satan forever, and because of it we have the hope of eternal life. Is your hope and trust in Christ? Commit your life to Him today, for He alone could say, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).
