New jobless claims put at 521,000
4th drop in 5 weeks better than analysts expected as layoffs slow

The number of newly laid-off workers filing first-time claims for jobless benefits fell last week to the lowest level since early January, as layoffs eased a bit amid a fledgling economic recovery.
