Pieces Of Me Opens In Rogers

EMELIA’S SERVING WINE IN SILOAM SPRINGS

Posted: November 30, 2009 at 3:58 a.m.

— A retail store that helps train adults for the workplace and a sit-down restaurant that serves alcohol in Siloam Springs recently opened.

Pieces of Me opened Oct. 22 at 2510 N. 17th St. Suites 201 and 202 in Rogers, near Dixieland and Hudson roads.

The store sells a combination of new and gently used items, from home decor, fragrances and jewelry to clothing, shoes and holiday items, said employee Kathleen Frank.

Pieces of Me has five full-time employees and seven adult students, who get job training at the store through a partnership with the Office of Human Concern in Rogers, said manager Karen Rakes.

Students in the four-month job training program get $100 of food per week and $50 to spend on transportation per week, Rakes said.

Students in turn donate 12 hours per week in the store, learning retail from the bottom up, including pricing and sizing inventory, waiting on customers and handling money, Rakes said.

Pieces of Me has about 2,000 square feet and is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.

Those seeking a sit-down meal and a glass of wine can check out Emelia’s Mediterranean Kitchen, which opened Nov. 3 at 100 University St. in Siloam Springs.

The downtown restaurant is in a former Ford dealership building and will be the only restaurant in Siloam Springs to serve alcohol, owner Sara Lusher previously said.

The Siloam Springs Emelia’s has about 5,000 square feet and seats about 175 people. The location has about 30 employees, with most of them working part-time.

Lusher said it cost about $450,000 to start the new restaurant, which includes renovation expenses and equipment purchases.

“People in Siloam Springs have been openly trying to get us to open there for at least four years and they finally convinced us,” Lusher previously said.
