SPRINGDALE Kiehl Frazier rose to the occasion Friday night just when Shiloh Christian needed him most.
Facing a 35-point deficit against Nashville in the Class 4A quarterfinals, Frazier guided the Saints by accounting for seven touchdowns in Shiloh’s remarkable 51-49 comeback victory over the Scrappers.
Frazier finished with 31 carries for 106 yards and two touchdowns, hecompleted 17 passes for 257 yards and four touchdowns and even had a 32-yard interception return for a touchdown in the second quarter.
Needless to say, Frazier’s impressiveperformance was clearly one of his best this season. The effort was good enough to earn him the Northwest Arkansas Newspapers Player of the Week honor.
“He’s a good player,” Nashville coach Billy Dawson said Friday night. “He took over in the second half. That’s their whole deal. They put all this window dressing on stuff , but when it gets to nut cutting time, (Frazier) is fixing to carry it. That’s what they did late in the game.”
Besides Frazier’s touchdowns, he also had a 57-yard punt that pinned Nashville at its 1, which later led to a safety that proved to be the diff erence in the game.
With the victory, Shiloh - thedefending state champion - will host Bald Knob in the semifinals Friday in Champions Stadium.
“I think for one, we fi nally scored. I think that got us over the hump,” Shiloh coach Josh Floyd said following the game. “(Nashville) did a great job on defense, had a great gameplan. We just had to get over that hump. We made two huge mistakes on special teams. Our defense wasn’t that bad.”
This season, Frazier has passed for more than 3,200 yards and 44 touchdowns.
“We just knew we had to get the ball in the end zone because if we can’t score, they are going to beat us 60-0,” Frazier said about the victory. “We had to get past that fi rst quarter and get going.” NORTHWEST ARKANSAS NEWSPAPERS SPORTS EDITOR CHIP SOUZA AND SPORTS WRITER TOM GLAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THIS REPORT.
