Artery disease a mummy’s curse?

Working with a team of curators, Laura Shafer checks the condition of a female mummy in August soon after its arrival in Little Rock for the Arkansas Arts Center’s “World of the Pharaohs” exhibit.

The Book of Exodus in the King James translation of the Bible describes a pharaoh who “hardened his heart” against the exodus of the Jews from ancient Egypt. Coincidentally, a research letter published in The Journal of the American Medical Association suggests the pharaoh may also have been suffering from hardened arteries.
