Donna C. Pettus received the University of Arkansas School of Law Women’s Law Student Association’s Gayle Pettus Ponce Award. The award is given to an outstanding woman attorney who has made a positive difference for her community and state. She is currently Arkansas Bar Association president.
Dr. S. Bryan Whitaker, an endodontist and oral pathologist in Springdale, will serve on the American Dental Association’s Council on Scientific Affairs. This is a three-year appointment, with only 18 dentists in the country being chosen.
Alysen W. Land, Ozark Natural Foods general manager since 2001, was elected vice president to the board of directors of the National Cooperative Grocers Association.
She also serves on the board of the Cooperative Grocers’ Information Network, the loan committee of the Northcountry Cooperative Development Fund and the NCGA’s Private Label Action Committee.
Ken Ketelsen was promoted to hospital administrator at Vista Health in Fayetteville. He has served in various leadership and management positions with Vista Health for many years and in his new role will be responsible for managing clinical operations throughout the hospital.
Robert Srygley, a professional tobacconist with Wedington Cigar Shop in Fayetteville has qualified for membership in the International Premium Cigar & Pipe Retailers Association. As a member, Srygley has access to association resources for market research, trade shows, products, services, scholarships and participation in community and legislative action programs.
Paul Graham of Farmington was recently elected to serve as 2009-10 president of NAIFA-Arkansas of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. Graham has previously served as president of the Northwest Arkansas association of NAIFA and has completed a two-year term as state membership chairman of the state organization. Shelley Parson of Springdale was elected president-elect.
Glenda Edwards was named a managing broker for the Northwest Arkansas region by Crye-Leike Realtors. She will oversee day-to-day management and operations of the Crye-Leike Springdale branch office.
Dr. Megan Petty of Centerton was certified as a fellow of the College of Optometry in vision development at the association’s annual meeting held Oct. 13-17 in Denver. She was one of 26 optometrists awarded fellow status by the board of directors for 2009, and one of three in Arkansas. She opened Pediatric Vision Development in Centerton in 2006.
Ryan Haley was hired by Pel-Freez Biologicals, a Rogers supplier of raw and intermediate material to the research and in vitro diagnostics industries, as process and product development engineer.
He has a bachelor’s degree in cellular biology from Northeastern State University and will receive a doctorate in cell and molecular biology from the University of Arkansas in December 2009.
Daniel Falcon was recently hired by Pel-Freez Biologicals as technical product specialist. He has a bachelor’s degree in biology from University of California-Riverside and has more than four years of experience as a research associate and technician with Peregrine Pharmaceuticals in Tustin, Calif.
Lyndi Modica of Fayetteville earned her certificate in Baking & Pastry Arts from The Culinary Institute of America at Greystone in St. Helena, Calif., in September.
Billy C. Pharis and Jamie Goss Dempseyjoined the Little Rock office of Quattlebaum, Grooms, Tull & Burrow PLLC.
Pharis attended the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith and Southern Methodist University before earning his bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Arkansas in 2004. He graduated cum laude from the University of Arkansas School of Law in Fayetteville in 2008.
Dempsey graduated cum laude from Georgetown University in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in American studies.

Chris Patrick was named manager of the Buckle in the Northwest Arkansas Mall in Fayetteville. Patrick began his career with the Buckle in 2005. He was the manager at the Pittsburg, Kan., Buckle location before being named manager of the Northwest Arkansas Mall store. He is a graduate of Messenger College.
