Bobby “Bob” Clark

BENTONVILLE — Bobby “Bob” Clark, 75 of Bentonville, died Nov. 27, 2009.

He was born Sept. 20, 1934, in Avoca to Ray Clark and Irene Hays Clark.

Bob worked for Kraft Foods in Bentonville, before a 20-year career as a professional truck driver with Wal-Mart Stores. He received many Safety Awards, and appeared in Sam Walton’s book “Made In America.”

Bob was an active member of the Bentonville First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, and drove the church bus for 30 years. Most recently he had driven a bus for the Bentonville Public School System for 10 years,

Bob served in the Arkansas National Guard, Battery A of the 142nd Field Artillery unit in Bentonville, enjoyed traveling, and had coached little baseball.

Bob loved spending time with his family and grandchildren, and was a lifetime resident of the area.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Betty Clark of the home; three sons, Larry Clark and wife Ladona, of Bentonville, Mike Clark and wife Lynn of Bentonville, Marty Clark and wife Merrie, of Lowell; his mother, Irene Lynch of Bentonville; a brother Billy Clark and wife Kathy of Garfield; five grandchldren, Michael Clark of Fayetteville, Matt Clark of Bentonville, Dan Clark of Bentonville, Courtney Clark of Bentonville, Anieca Clark of Lowell and one great grandson Dylan Clark of Bentonville.

Funeral services will be 2 p..m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Bentonville with the Rev. Phillip Smith officiating. Burial will be in Twelve Corners Cemetery, east of Pea Ridge.

Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church of Bentonville.

Memorial may be made in honor of Bobby Clark to the Bus Ministry of First Baptist Church, 200 S.W. “A” Street, Bentonville, AR 72712.

Hilda Winifred “Bunty” Mullen

BELLA VISTA — Hilda Winifred “Bunty” Mullen died peacefully at her home on Nov. 26, 2009. She was born on March 7, 1914, in Oddstock, Wiltshire, England. She was known throughout her lifetime for her elegance, athleticism, business acumen and culinary skills.

As a young girl she rode to hounds. As a teenager she competed in tennis at Wimbledon on the Junior Circuit. As a young woman she attended culinary school in France.

In 1935 she married an officer in the British Royal Artillery, F. Peter Alexander. In 1939 at the outbreak of World War II, she came to the United States with her two-year-old daughter, Fern, fleeing the anticipated attack by the German armies on the United Kingdom.

Her arrival in California began a lifelong love affair with the United States.

In 1947, with her second husband, Parke M. Wetherill, who died in 1968, she came to Doylestown, Pa., where they established a thriving real estate business.

In 1972 she married Gerald M. Mullen. They moved to Bella Vista, where she became an integral part of the growing golf and tennis communities. She played with agility and enthusiasm even after reaching the age 80. An avid bridge player, she loved the challenge of winning, adding enormous zest to her rich life.

She is survived by her husband, Gerald M. Mullen of Bella Vista; one daughter, Fern Denney of Glenmoore, Pa.; three granddaughters, Tracy Imbach, Julie Denney and Allison Denney; five great-grandchildren; two stepchildren, Tim Mullen of Boulder, Colo., and Phoebe Naughton of Omaha, Neb.; 12 step grandchildren and 10 step great-grandchildren .

Mass of the resurrection will be on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Bernard Catholic Church with Msgr. James E. Mancini officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a Rosary service at 7 p.m. in the Bella Vista Funeral Home Chapel, 2258 Forest Hills Blvd.

David Lee Alsup

BELLA VISTA — David Lee Alsup, 63, of Bella Vista passed away Nov. 27, 2009, in Bella Vista. He was born Jan. 12, 1946, in Oklahoma City. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Willie Lou Alsup.

He participated in football, wrestling, track and other sports throughout his school career in Perry, Okla.

He served in the Army National Guard earning the Expert Rifle Ribbon. He enjoyed fishing, playing golf, riding his motorcycle and spending time with his family and friends.

David is survived by two sons, Kevin Workman and wife Kim of Washington and Matthew Alsup of Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio; one daughter Megan Sutherland and husband Hank of Rogers,; one brother Bruce Alsup of Waggoner, Okla.; and five grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Stockdale Funeral Chapel in Rogers with Pastor Red Dixon officiating.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made in honor of David Lee Alsup to the “David Alsup Memorial Fund” at any Arvest Bank.

Ermal Berryman Travis

BRENTWOOD — Ermal Berryman Travis, 92, died Nov. 28, 2009. She was born Feb. 4, 1917, in Faulkner County.

She is survived by a daughter, Helen England of Derby, Kan.; a son, Lynn Travis of Winslow; five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and two sisters.

Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Brentwood Cemetery under the direction of Moore’s Chapel.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. today at Moore’s Chapel.

Lynn Carney Tankersley

FAYETTEVILLE — Lynn Carney Tankersley went to her Heavenly home on Nov. 22, 2009. She was born May 30, 1953, in Fayetteville, the daughter of Wilma Inez Thornsberry Carney and John Ramey Carney. She was preceded in death by her father on Feb. 8, 2002.

She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Mark Tankersley; her beloved son, Jeremy Kristian Tankersley, of Fayetteville, and daughter-in-law, Kina Tankersley; her mother, Wilma Carney of Fayetteville; one brother, Steve Carney of Huntsville; one sister, Cathy Scates of Fayetteville; one aunt, Pauline Eans, of Fayetteville; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

She leaves behind many friends whom she considered family, those whose company she treasured and truly enjoyed.

Lynn was an award-winning published author. As a member of the Northwest Arkansas Writers’ Workshop, the Ozark Writers League of Branson, and the Oklahoma Writers’ Federation, Inc., she won three Creme de la Creme awards for fiction, as well as the Dan Saults Award for fiction. She also judged numerous writing competitions.

She enjoyed photography, and won two Cliff Edom Awards for her nature photos.

Her short story “Death Becomes Able Brumley” won 5th place, Mainstream/Literary Story, in the Writer’s Digest 73rd Annual Writing Competition in 2004. Her short story, “Pearl,” was published by Surreal Magazine in the Spring 2005 issue. She was also nominated for a Push Cart award in 2008 for the story “Shores Of Oblivion.”

Lynn loved sharing music and good times with musical friends. She previously served on the board of directors of Country Your Way, a talent showcase in Springdale, and was their photographer and album coordinator.

She never missed the monthly “Hootenanny” at the Robinson Community Center, and enjoyed attending dances several times a month.

Lynn requests that those who loved her remember these words by the poet, William Wordsworth:

“What though the radiance that was once so bright

Be now forever taken from my sight,

Though nothing can bring back the hour

Of splendor in the grass, glory in the flower

We will grieve not - rather find

Strength in what remains behind.”

Memorial services will be held at St. Paul Episcopal Church in Fayetteville at 10 a.m., Tuesday with Pastor Suzanne Stoner officiating.
