— One cut shut down mobile phone and long-distance landline services in Siloam Springs for more than three hours on Tuesday.

A construction crew cut an AT&T fiber-optic wire in Fayetteville that feeds much of the wireless and long-distance services in Siloam Springs, said Natasha Collins, a spokeswoman for AT&T.

Service was restored about 5 p.m., Collins said.

The cut also caused customers of Cox Communications to lose services, from Internet to TV, for three hours, said Kelly Zega, Cox director of public affairs.

Areas other than Siloam Springs were affected by the outage, Zega said.

Verizon mobile phone service was affected for no more than four hours,” said Lucie Pathmann, manager of public relations for the south-central region.

Landline customers of CenturyLink were also affected, spokesman Jeff Jones said.

CenturyLink’s Internet and local services in Siloam Springs were not affected. The company leases AT&T’s line for long distance.

The cut affected about 11,000 CenturyLink customers, and services were restored about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jones said.

Walmart in Siloam Springs was affected by the service outage for about two hours, said Kelly Cheeseman, spokeswoman for Wal-Mart.

The Siloam Springs police and fire departments reported minimal or no impact because of the service disruptions.

Rachel Tracy with Benton County Department of Emergency Management said both Central Communications in Bentonville, and the emergency management office had no report of problems because of the outage.
