University Plans Tech Event

Posted: November 26, 2009 at 4:50 a.m.

— The University of Arkansas’ Information Technology Research Institute and the Department of Information Systems in the Sam M. Walton College of Business will sponsor IT Day for Parents and Educators on Dec. 3.

The program, designed for parents, educators, teachers and counselors, will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at Willard J. Walker Hall, room 203.

“We are very excited to be able to present such a program for parents and educators,” said Moez Limayem, chairman of the information systems department. “Despite the economy, we want to reinforce that IT jobs are still hot, and that opportunities in the high growth tech sector are plentiful, and not being shipped overseas.”

Dinner from Gullet’s Gourmet will be served. For information, or to RSVP, call 479-575-4261 or e-mail cpine@walton.uark.edu.

The IT Day program includes an overview of information technology as a career, information about financial aid and scholarships and how students can find jobs after graduation.

The event is sponsored by Tyson, ConocoPhillips, Southwestern Energy, Dillard’s and Hewlett-Packard.
