Every American can come up with at least 100 things for which they are (or should be) thankful. Anyone who says they can’t, well, they’re not trying hard enough.
In the spirit of the day, we newspaper people would like to express our gratitude for just a few of the things that make it easier to get out of bed each morning:
Modern conveniences. Yes, the microwave, washer, dryer, ATM, Internet, vacuum cleaner and indoor plumbing have been with us for a while, but we still like having them.
Music. Whether it comes from your iPod, your car radio or a live performance in the park, it just makes life better.
Sports. Especially when the Razorbacks are on a roll. (Ifthey’re losing, please don’t talk to us.)
Jobs. The most recent numbers indicate that more than 90 percent of Arkansans still have one. Let’s be thankful for that - and keep praying for the numbers to improve.
Our readers. They keep us employed. Enough said.
Our critics. They make us better.
Freedom of the press. We shudder to imagine life without it. North Korea, anyone?
Family and friends. Can they frustrate us sometimes? Yes. Would life stink without them?
Absolutely.
America. Still the greatest country on Earth. Let’s keep it that way.
People who fight for America. They serve our country far from home, putting themselves in the line of fire while missing precious time with loved ones.
God bless them all.
Faith. In good and bad times, many of us take comfort in our belief in a higher power.
Stars. The ones in the sky, that is. Even if the names of the constellations have escaped us, we can still enjoy the beauty of a clear night sky. There’s nothing quite like it.
The sun. Though clouds sometimes get in its way, it comes up every morning. That’s reassuring.
