Opening Day Deer
Harvest On Target
Hunters in Arkansas killed 18,766 deer on Saturday, the opening day of the modern gun deer season.
The opening day harvest normally accounts for about 20 percent of the year’s modern gun harvest.
The total deer harvest so far this season for archery, muzzleloader and modern gun combined is 89,749.
Harvest numbers by county for all seasons combined as of Wednesday morning:
Benton: 964 bucks, 125 button bucks, 729 doe, total 1,818.
Washington: 1,294 bucks, 135 button bucks, 729 doe, total 2,339.
Carroll: 518 bucks, 51 button bucks, 329 doe, total, 898.
Madison: 1,069 bucks, 135 button bucks, 806 doe, total 2,010.

Springdale Lake
Stocked With Trout
Springdale Lake is the newest addition to the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission’s winter trout stocking program.
The lake was stocked with 300 rainbow trout last week and will be stocked twice monthly through the winter. The fish average 10 to 12 inches long. An Arkansas fishing license and trout permit are required for anglers 16 and over. The daily limit is five.
The lake is located along Silent Grove Road near the Springdale wastewater treatment plant.
Argentina Program
Shown At Meeting
The presentation, “Argentina, From the Devil’s Throat to the Land of Fire” by Jack and Pam Stewart will be featured at the Northwest Arkansas Audubon Society meeting at 10 a.m.
on December 5.

Hunters Take 14 Deer At Hobbs
Hunters at Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area killed 14 deer during the park’s muzzle-loader deer season Nov. 14-18.
Seven bucks and seven does were harvested. A 10-point buck was the largest antler size. The harvest last season was 20 deer.
Free Fly Fishing Seminar O◊ered
The Missouri Department of Conservation will host a free fly fishing workshop at Walter Woods Conservation Area 5 miles south of Joplin from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Dec. 5.
Topics include tackle and fly selection, aquatic insect biology and fish cleaning. Gear will be available for use, or students may bring their own.
