White House decked in finest for leader’s visit

The Obamas welcome Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his wife, Gursharan Kaur, for a state dinner Tuesday at the White House.
President Barack Obama tried Tuesday to calm India’s fears about Asian rival China, treating the leader of the world’s largest democracy to an elaborate state visit and assurances of India’s “rightful place as a global leader.”
