The elderly couple stood in a drizzling rain, staring at the blackened remains of their home. Two days before Thanksgiving, and their house had just exploded. Oh how sad, thought John Rehrauer, spokesman for the Pulaski County sheriff’s office. Tentatively, he approached them. “I’m so sorry for your loss,” he said. The man, bespectacled and snowy-haired, turned in surprise and grinned. “Oh, young man. Do you know how old I am?” “No,” Rehrauer said.

“I’m 94,” the old man said. “I married a younger woman. She’s 85. God let us out of that house, and we are just fine. We still have each other.”
