TERRELL, BRASHERS LIFT LADY GOBLINS

ROGERS Rogers Heritage looked to have an open path to its first lead since early in the second quarter and possibly its first victory of the season with under a minute left Tuesday night.
But Harrison’s 5-foot-11 sophomore Kelsey Terrell quickly took it away with a blocked shot and teammate Molly Brashers hit 4-of-4 free throws in the final 21.8 seconds to help the Lady Goblins get a 39-34 win over Heritage in War Eagle Arena.
Harrison was clinging to a 35-34 lead when Terrell came out of nowhere to block Danielle Schillinger’s 8-foot jumper from the side of the lane with 40 seconds left.
“It was huge,” Harrison coach Doug Young said. “(Terrell) just made an incredible play. I was proud.”
Heritage coach Kevin Ramey said his team executed correctly on the play.
“We got exactly what we wanted. We had the angle,” Ramey said. “The kid just came out of nowhere and made a great play. I thought our kid took it up strong, and I thought their kid made the play. Credit to her.”
The Lady War Eagles (0-4) had a shot to tie late after Brashers canned both ends of a one-and-one to put Harrison up 37-34. Once again, Heritage executed well to get a good shot, but it didn’t fall.
Senior Kelsey Layton popped out to the right wing and got an open look, but it rattled out with under 10 seconds left. Schillinger managed to grab the rebound but came up short on an off-balance follow attempt.
Brasher cleared the rebound and was fouled again. Once more, the senior hit both free throws to set the fi nal margin.
Heritage trailed the entire second half but stayed close thanks to the shooting of Hannah Hickman. Th e senior guard fi nished with a game-high 17 points, including fi ve 3-pointers.
Ramey said Heritage needed to rebound better, especially in the second half. But he was still happy with his team’s eft ort.
“I thought our kids competed,” Ramey said. “I thought theirs did, too. For a Thanksgiving game with not many people in the gym, I thought it was a pretty entertaining game.”
Kylee Quattlebaum led Harrison with 13 points, including three 3-pointers.
Harrison won the junior varsity game 45-15. Cheyenne Elliot led Heritage with fi ve.
Heritage plays next on Dec. 1 at Alma.
