WHAT’S THE first quote you look for when some guy is picked up for being a serial killer? Some neighbor, or a co-worker, or somebody only remotely familiar with the suspect will tell the reporter: “He was such a quiet man.” Or a nice guy. Or a friendly person. Or our favorite: He always helped out around the neighborhood. And had something friendly to say to the kids.
