Drug-Sniffing Chinchilla Aids In Search

A pet chinchilla led investigators to marijuana and the eventual arrest of a Bentonville man.

Harrison Lee White, 18, of 801 S.W. Arrowhead Drive in B entonville was arrested Monday, according to anews release from the Benton County Sheriff ’s Oft ce.

White was arrested in connection with four counts of delivery of a controlled substance, two counts of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia in the course of felony drug violations.

Investigators received a tip Monday about a marijuana distribution business in Bentonville, according to the news release.

Investigators obtained a search warrant and located several individually packaged bags of mushrooms, high-grade marijuana and various items of drug paraphernalia, according to the report.

During the search, investigators noticed White’s pet chinchilla aggressively attempting to get to a cheese snack can lying on top of its cage.

When investigators opened the can, they found snacks and a false compartment in the bottom of the can containing a bag of marijuana.

White was being held Tuesday in the Benton County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 bond.
