The National Philanthropy Day luncheon hosted by the Association of Fundraising Professionals on Wednesday celebrated the widespread generosity we enjoy in Northwest Arkansas.
“The caring power in this community is enormous,” honoree Jeff Schomburger told the more than 500 philanthropists, fundraisers, board members, volunteers and other folks important to nonprofit agencies gathered for the annual awards to outstanding individuals and organizations.
This year’s honorees were:
Fadil Bayyari - Outstanding Philanthropist;
Tim Hudson - Outstanding Fundraising Executive;
Kimberly-Clark - Outstanding Corporation;
Chris Rogers - Ernie Lawrence Outstanding Professional Advisor;
Jeff Schomburger - Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser;
Will Golf 4 Kids and Color of Hope Gala - Outstanding Philanthropic Organization;
Lewis E. Epley Jr. - Lifetime Philanthropic Achievement and
Neile Jones - Judges’ Special Award.
Lewis told us, “The term ‘lifetime’ has a certain connotation,” and recited a favorite quote of his. “When a man has accomplished all he thinks is worthwhile, he begins to die.”
As a septuagenarian, he considers himself to be “on the extended warranty” and doesn’t believe he’s accomplished all that he thinks is worthwhile.
“By the grace of God, I would like to continue.”
The organization also presented professional awards to some of its members that included:
Stephanie Medford - Clay Edwards Memorial Scholarship;
Amy Linimon - Chamberlain Scholarship and
Allison McElroy - Certified Fundraising Executive Scholarship.
Benton County Sunshine School hosted its fourth annual A Very Special Art Show on Thursday evening at the Pinnacle Hills Metropolitan Bank in Rogers.
This year’s featured artist was Karrie Evenson, host of the television show “Karrie on Canvas.”
The more than 120 guests enjoyed tenderloin rolls with horseradish sauce provided by Ruth’s Chris and wine from Liquor Mart and Wine Shop as they admired the art.
The show raised approximately $6,500 for the therapeutic day center that serves approximately 600 people withdisabilities each year, most of whom are aged birth to fi ve years old.
The 51-year-old organization offers speech, physical and occupational therapies, early intervention programs for children under three and community support for its clients.
Next up on the Sunshine School’s fundraising calendar is Big Doin’s on April 24, 2010. For the second year, the event will be a comedy competition.
Those perusing the paintings included Brande and Chad Palmer, Chris Sooter, Kathy and Joe Farnan, Charlotte and Jerry Hudlow, Bootsie Ackerman and Lisa Fitzgibbons.
