Medicare Enrollment Set

Posted: November 21, 2009 at 3:21 a.m.

— Har-Ber High School students will provide a chance for senior citizens to learn about Medicare Part D prescription drug plans during a Medicare open enrollment event today at the school.

The event comes as the enrollment period for Medicare prescription drug plans is under way. Seniors have between Nov. 15 and Dec. 31 to choose a plan, said Melissa Rogers, social worker for Washington Regional’s Senior Health Clinic.

“If you don’t sign up between that period, you miss the enrollment, and you have to wait (a year),” Rogers said.

The event will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the front entrance of the school. Student groups partnering on the event include Har-Ber’s Environmental and Spatial Technologies program and Health Occupations and Students of America.

“We’ll have signs out front giving directions,” East Lab facilitator Debra Lamb said.

Representatives from Social Security and the Arkansas Insurance Department’s Senior Health Insurance Information Program will be available to assist in the enrollment process.

For information, contact the East Lab at 750-877, ext. 2034.
