— Opal Elizabeth Barron

FARMINGTON — Opal Elizabeth Barron, 84, of Farmington, died Nov. 19, 2009, in Springdale. She was born Sept. 20, 1925, at Burkshed to John M. and Effie L. White Hancock.

Survivors include six sons, Johnny Barron, Charles Barron, Aaron Barron and Kent Barron, all of Farmington, and Andy Barron and Bill Barron, both of Cherryvale, Kan.; one daughter, Joyce Moore of Farmington; one brother; two sisters, Audie Robbins and Jessie Jackson, both of Springdale; 26 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Luginbuel Chapel, Prairie Grove. Burial will be in the Elm Springs Cemetery with no services.

Ruby Jarnagan

WINSLOW — Ruby Elizabeth Jarnagan passed away Nov. 18, 2009, at Fayetteville City Hospital.

Ruby was a faithful member of the Church of Christ at Winslow for many years.

She was born May 11, 1915, to William H. and Lydia Mae Dockery and had one brother and six sisters. Throughout most of her childhood, she lived with her family at Sunset.

Ruby was married to J.D. Jarnagan on Dec. 24, 1935, and they were the parents of five children. They had a small farm and then operated the Winslow Mercantile Store at Winslow. After retiring from the store, she completed her working years as a teacher’s aide at the Winslow School, a job that was a real joy to her. She was a wonderful and sweet person who enjoyed many things. Special hobbies were her flowers, reading and cooking delicious food.

She was predeceased by her husband, J.D. Jarnagan, of 59 years; and two sons, William (Bill) Jarnagan and Larry (Tiny) Jarnagan. She was also predeceased by her parents, a brother, George Dockery, and sisters, Mary Adams, Ruth Dennis, Pauline Mills, Colleen Thomas and Wilma Jamerson and other special family members.

She is survived by two sons: Jerry Jarnagan and his wife, Mary Jarnagan, of Bentonville and Louie Jarnagan of Winslow; one daughter: Elizabeth (Betsy) Martin and her husband, Jim Martin, of Durham; a daughter-in-law, Linda Jarnagan of Bixby, Okla.; nine grandchildren, Randy Jarnagan, Trina Jarnagan Bonaker, Jay Jarnagan, Tammie Jarnagan Thomas, Sam Jarnagan, Rhonda Jarnagan, Jason Martin, Derron Martin and Jennifer Jarnagan Riem; 21 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Garnet Terry of Fayetteville; one brother-in-law, Ray Mills of Fayetteville; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 23, at Winslow Church of Christ. Officiating will be Randall Caselman and J.R. Dockery. Burial will be at Sunset Cemetery, under the direction of Moore’s Chapel.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 22, at Moore’s Chapel in Fayetteville.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons with nephews as honorary pallbearers.

Denise Kennedy

FAYETTEVILLE — Denise Colleen Kennedy, 46, died Nov. 18, 2009, at her home. She was born May 30, 1963, in Palm Springs, Calif., to James Douglas and Judith Gail Bullard Kennedy.

She was a cashier and a member of Samaritan House Fellowship in Springdale.

Survivors include two daughters, Stacie Collins and Rachel Collins, both of Fayetteville; her father, James Kennedy of Phoenix; mother, Judith Gail Bullard of Springdale; a brother; six grandchildren.

Services will be at 5 p.m. Sunday at Samaritan House Fellowship in Springdale.

Shirley Sommer

SPRINGDALE — Shirley Mae Sommer, 82, died Nov. 17, 2009, at Northwest Medical Center, Springdale. She was born March 30, 1927, in Rockford, Ill., to Vernie and Edna Johnson.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Rockford, Ill.

Survivors include a daughter, Sherri Immel of Palm Coast, Fla.; a son, Stephen Sommer of Pea Ridge; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Scandinavian Cemetery in Rockford, Ill., under the direction of Olson Funeral Home in Rockford, Ill.

Reba Cate

SPRINGDALE — Reba Nell “Becca” Cate, 47, died Nov. 18, 2009, in Springdale. She was born July 11, 1962, in Harrison to Virgil C. and Ava L. Flud Reddell.

She was of the Pentecostal faith.

Survivors include her husband, Mike Cate; six sons, Jerritt D. Newberry of Morrow, Shannon D. Cook, Chris D. Cook, and Brandon K. Butterfly, all of Springdale, Michael Busby of Rogers and Mike Lee Cate of Florida; six daughters, Teresa Bosley, Misty Dentis, Ashley N. Cate and Cortnie Reyna, all of Springdale, Rachael Cate of Fayetteville, and Megan Newberry of Morrow; two sisters, Lena Robinson and Joyce Pickering, both of Springdale; one brother, Carl Reddell of Springdale; 12 grandchildren.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home in Fayetteville.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Carver Cemetery near Piercetown.

Jack E. Lawson

HARRISON — The Rev. Jack E. Lawson, 88, Harrison, died Nov. 17, 2009, in Harrison. The Rev. Lawson was born April 10, 1921, in Bentonville, son of Gilbert T. and Dorothy D. (Mayfield) Lawson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; two brothers; and a granddaughter.

The Rev. Lawson was a World War II veteran. Bro. Jack was a pastor for 42 years in the Benton, Carroll and Boone County area. After retiring from over a decade at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Harrison, he was often found supplying in area pulpits in the North Arkansas Baptist Association. He began in the ministry at Central Avenue Baptist Church in Bentonville as a deacon before surrendering to his pastoral call. His love for the church and Jesus Christ was only surpassed by his love for his family and friends.

He found joy in the little things of life, children, smiles and friendly conversation. Bro. Jack’s convictions never wavered as to the foundation of the Bible and its impact on a person’s life.

The Rev. Jack E. Lawson is survived by his wife, Lucille (Harris) Lawson, of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Jack E. and (Mary) Lawson, Jr. and Thomas Lee (Patricia) Lawson, all of Harrison; his daughter and son-in-law, Penny (Dean) VanLaningham, of Whitesboro, Texas; grandchildren, Deanna (Dan) Hunter and Daniel Pate, Lanette Williams and Joel, Jana (John) Harrison and Jonathan, Thomas Lawson, Rebekah (Eric) Carnley and Elizabeth Lawson of the home; his sisters, Geraldine Scott of Bentonville, Irene Smith of Springdale, and Shirley Holliday of Bentonville; his brothers, Rev. Bill Lawson of Grandview, Wash., and Jim Lawson of Decatur; his brother-in-law and his wife, Wayne (Gladys) Harris, of Centerton.

Visitation 6 to 7, today, Nov. 20 at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home with memorial service at 7 following visitation at Roller-Christeson. Graveside service 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21st, at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rogers, with the Rev. Clyde Noakes and the Rev. Dean VanLaningham officiating. Family and friends are pallbearers.

Margarita Ramirez

SPRINGDALE — Margarita Barbosa Ramirez, 38, died Nov. 18, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Rogers. She was born May 17, 1971, in Mexico City, Mexico, to Jesus Isidro Barbosa and Ma Guadalupe Ramirez.

She was a member of the St. Raphael’s Catholic Church and a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Juvencio Rodriguez; two sons, Francisco and Horacio Rodriguez, both of Springdale; three daughters, Denise Rodriguez, Jimena Rodriguez and Margarita Rodriguez, all of Springdale; two brothers, Josea Barobsa of Springdale and Fernando Barbosa of Rogers; three sisters, including Juana Barbosa of Springdale; and one grandchild.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at St. Rapheal’s Catholic Church in Springdale. Burial will follow in the Bluff Cemetery under the direction of Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Springdale.

Sandy Beebe

ROGERS — Sandy Lou Beebe, 55, of Rogers died Nov. 18, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Rogers.

She enjoyed family gatherings and collecting dolls and Elvis memorabilia.

She is survived by her mate, Curtis Mortensen; two sisters, Pat Martin of Elm Springs and Leona Stephens of Rogers; and two brothers, Jack Beebe and Edward Beebe, both of Rogers.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Rogers Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. today at Benton County Funeral Home.

Charles Lindsey

SPRINGDALE — Charles Warren Lindsey, 81, of Springdale died Nov. 11, 2009, at Regency Hospital in Springdale. He was born May 25, 1928, in Middlebrook to Charles Edgar and Lora Bethel Johnson Lindsey.

He retired as a farm research superintendent for Merck & Co., and served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy; a son, Gordon Lindsey and wife, Beth, of Spring, Texas; two daughters, Carolyn Polk and husband, Tommy, of Little Rock, and Melinda Emmerling and husband, Mark, of Maumelle; four brothers, a sister; and eight grandchildren.

Memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Thomas Episcopal Church.

Arrangements are by Heritage Funeral Home in Springdale.
