Posted: November 20, 2009 at 5 a.m.
The 67th annual John Brown University Candlelight Service will ring in the Christmas season with traditional melodies, time-honored classics, and inspirational readings on Dec. 10-12. The service will be held in the Cathedral of the Ozarks on the JBU campus. All performances are free and open to the public.
Doors will open for general seating at 6:30 p.m., and the service will begin promptly at 7 p.m. with an instrumental prelude, according to a JBU news release.
The service will feature selections performed by the Cathedral Choir, directed by Paul Smith, the Women’s Chorus, directed by Kate Dewey, and the Chamber Choir, directed by Donald Thames. JBU students Madeleine Breeden and Taylor Turner will perform a duet, accompanied by Jan Helmut Wubbena and Lindsey Rogan on basso continuo.
Seating is on first-come, first-served basis, and early arrival is encouraged. In order to preserve the worshipful atmosphere of the services, guests are requested to consider not bringing young children to the service and to refrain from flash photography, according to the release.
