Deputy wounded as team tries to make arrest in Hot Springs

A suspect in the five homicides last week in Pearcy was shot and killed Thursday night when authorities attempted to arrest him at a Hot Springs hotel.
A member of the Tactical Response Team of the Garland County sheriff’s office was shot and seriously wounded during the operation.
The team went to the National Park Inn at 1125 E. Grand Ave. sometime before 7:30 p.m. to arrest the suspect, who was in one of the inner rooms, when gunshots were exchanged between the team and the suspect.
The wounded officer was initially transported to St. Joseph’s Mercy Health Center and then later airlifted to an undisclosed hospital in Little Rock for further treatment.
