Fund Established For Fire Victims

Posted: November 20, 2009 at 4:40 a.m.

— A fund has been established at First Western Bank for the Griger family.

Jeff and Marleen Griger and their two children were not at home Tuesday when fire destroyed their home in Avoca. Marleen is a part-time employee at the Rogers Public Library.

The fund was setup by city employees as a way to help the family who lost everything in the fire, said Mayor Steve Womack.

City employees have found coats for the family through Alderman Gary Townzen’s annual coat drive.

The family may move into a city-owned house that rents for about $500 per month near Veterans Park until they can get back on their feet, Womack said.

Anyone wishing to contribute to the Griger fund should contact First Western Bank.

A portion of the information contained in this article is incorrect. Jeff and Marleen Griger were not the ones who lost their home in the fire. It was my husband, our two children and I. Our names are Mark and Maighan Griger. In addition, our home was not in Avoca, it was in Rogers.

There are so many people who have done so much for us, but I feel without these two people we would not be where we are today. Those two people are Mayor Steve Womack and Angela Brewer. Without them, we would not have a place to call home and would not have anything in the home. I could not have done this without you! Mayor Womack and Angela Brewer single handedly turned our lives around and gave all of their hearts and time. We are forever grateful.

I would also like to thank everyone who helped us by contributing to the 'Griger Relief Fund' at the First Western Bank of Rogers, Donations of clothes and household items and keeping us in your prayers.

I am so grateful for all of you and for the community I live in with such wonderful, kind hearted people. God Bless you! I look forward to the day that I will be able to touch a life the way you have my family and I. Thank you!
