Board Denies Liquor License To Club Near Heritage High School

Posted: November 20, 2009 at 5:21 a.m.

— Puerto La Libertad, a club on Eighth Street, 251 feet behind Rogers Heritage High School, was denied a liquor license Wednesday by Alcohol Beverage Control Board.

Antonio Hernandez applied for the license during the summer and Michael Langley, ABC director, rejected the request.

Hernandez appealed the decision to the full board and a hearing was held Wednesday in Little Rock. Hernandez did not appear at the meeting, according to Roger Mayor Steve Womack, who attended the hearing.

“He asked for an extension because of a death in the family but the board denied the extension,” Womack said Thursday.

Womack testified against allowing the license so close to a school. He also added remarks from Janie Darr, superintendent of the Rogers School District, who also opposed granting the alcohol permit.
