— Benton County Sheriff’s Office investigators are looking for two men, and possibly a third, who have taken extra money from cashiers, Investigator Geovanni Serrano said Wednesday.

The office has received three reports of the incidents from the Walgreens near Bella Vista over the past year. Men come into the store and purchase something small using a large bill, Serrano said.

They get change and stand close to the cashier to make them uncomfortable. Then they confuse the clerk by asking them to give change for other bills or let them pay with a different bill.

The men usually leave with $100 or more than they should, Serrano said. Investigators believe the men have used the scam at other stores but managers chalk it up to cashier error and don’t report it, he said.

Surveillance footage from one incident at the Walgreens shows the suspects to be two black, heavy-set men. One walks with a crutch and has a deformed hand.
