Deputies Recover Stolen Cattle

Posted: November 19, 2009 at 4:30 a.m.

— Benton County deputies recovered nine head of stolen cattle from a farm in Lincoln on Wednesday and police say an arrest is pending.

According to Detective Audrey Thompson, the cows, along with two roping saddles and a 20-foot goose-neck stock trailer were taken from a farm off Patterson Road in Pea Ridge on Oct. 1. Both the trailer and the cattle were recovered from the farm in Lincoln on Wednesday afternoon. The owners of the farm reportedly bought the property without knowing they were stolen. They face no criminal charges.

“As of today, everything has been recovered,” Thompson said. “The suspect is being incarcerated in Kansas and we’re waiting for him to be transported.”

Thompson said no arrests had been made locally in relation to the case as of Wednesday night. The stolen property is worth an estimated $7,500.

“There’s been a lot of cattle theft in Oklahoma and Missouri, but it’s not very common here,” she said. “There are only two cases that I know of in Benton County over the past year, if not longer.”

Thompson wouldn't release the name of the suspect involved in the case pending his transport to Benton County. The investigation is ongoing.
