About 20 parents and community members were scattered throughout the Fayetteville High School cafeteria Wednesday to talk about the strengths and weaknesses of the district’s curriculum.
Although small in number, the group managed to give auditors a laundry list of weaknesses in foreign languages; students in the middle; lack of flexibility, especially at the high school; poor communication about special programs; lack of strong leadership in some schools; and the need for more vocational classes.
The focus groups are part of kindergarten through 12th grade curriculum audit being conducted by Phi Delta Kappa, an international service organization for educators. The district contracted with the organization to do the audit. The cost is $36,000.
