Police Arrest Man After Dickson Head-Stomping Incident

— A Fort Smith man faces a felony charge after police say they witnessed him beating another man Saturday night near Dickson Street.

Kevin Reza Mirzaei, 18, of 1220 N. Albert Pike was arrested on a charge of second-degree battery.

According to a preliminary arrest report, Fayetteville police patrolling Dickson and West Avenue about 11:15 p.m. Saturday saw Mirzaei punching another man on the face at the southwest corner of the intersection. As officers approached the man reportedly fell to the ground. Mirzaei then stomped the his head, according to the report.

Mirzaei ran after noticing officers, according to police. During the chase, an officer tripped on a cord in a grassy area near Grub’s restaurant and injured his wrist.

Police caught Mirzaei near the train tracks on Dickson. He appeared intoxicated and initially resisted officers attempts to handcuff him, but was eventually detained, officers reported. Police said he was also carrying an Arkansas driver’s license that belonged to someone else.

The injured officer was treated for a “deep tissue contusion” at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville. The officer will be placed on light duty for at least a week as a result of the injury, the report stated.

The man Mirzaei is accussed of assaulting was treated at the scene for facial injuries by Central Emergency Medical Service crews.

Mirzaei was transported to Washington County Detention Center, where he was booked on the battery charge in addition to misdemeanor charges of third-degree battery, disorderly conduct, public intoxication, resisting arrest/uses of force, fleeing and unlawful use of a driver’s license. He was released from jail Monday on a $5,500 bond.
