Girls On The Run Hosts 5K Event
Girls on the Run of Northwest Arkansas will host a 5K event on Saturday at The H.L.M. Teen Center, 1207 NW Leopard Lane in Bentonville.
The 5K is the culminating event of the Girls on the Run program, which addresses girls’ physical, emotional, mental, social and spiritual development needs and provides them with tools to face common challenges in life.
Formerly the “Chicks”-n-Chili event, there will free Hormel Chili, a Kellogg’s Kidzone, clowns, face painting, music and door prizes.
The 5K starts at 9 a.m.
The half marathon begins at 8 a.m.
Cost: $20 for those who preregister and $25 for race day registration.

Food Drive Continuing
Individuals can drop off nonperishable food items at Metro Builders Supply in Springdale.
The items will aid a new nonprofit known as Saving Grace. The drive continues through Friday.
Participants can sign up for a drawing for a stocked refrigerator.

Wildflower Talk Slated Saturday
Theo Witsell, botanist and field ecologist with the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission, will present the talk “Rare Wildflower Habitats and New Discoveries” on Saturday to the Flower, Garden and Nature Society of Northwest Arkansas.
The event will be in the student center of Northwest Arkansas Technical Institute, 709 N. Old Missouri Road in Springdale.
The meeting begins at 9:30 a.m.
with a social time. The talk follows at 10 a.m. Meetings are free and open to the public.

Students Plan Medicare Event
Students from Har-Bar EAST and Health Occupations Students of America are hosting a Medicare Open Enrollment event on Saturday to help Medicare beneficiaries compare 2010 Medicare Prescription Drug Plans.
The event will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Har-Ber High School’s front entrance area, 300 Jones Road in Springdale.
This is an opportunity for every Medicare beneficiary to compare his or her Medicare Part D prescription drug plans for 2010 and is free of charge.
