— Astronomy Topic of Saturday Events At Hobbs

ROGERS — Dixie Andros, a NorthWest Arkansas Community College instructor, will guide children and adults through a unique astronomy workshop Saturday at Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area.

Participants will assemble and use a working model of Galileo’s telescope which belongs to Andros.

The workshop begins at 2 p.m. and is free but enrollment is limited. For reservations call 479-789-5000. The event is sponsored by Friends of Hobbs.

At 4 p.m., the Sugar Creek Astronomical Society will present a beginner’s astronomy class in the visitor center. Outdoor observation using binoculars, telescopes and the naked eye will begin about 5:15 p.m. The public is invited. The beginner astronomy class and night viewing are also free.

Those attending the night viewing are asked to bring a flashlight with red material or a red balloon affixed over the globe; binoculars and/or telescope; a folding chair; and a star chart.

The Hobbs visitor center is located 12 miles east of Rogers on Arkansas 12.

Evenson Featured in Art Show

ROGERS — Karrie Evenson, host of the television show “Karrie on Canvas,” will be the featured artist Thursday at Metropolitan National Bank, 3701 Pinnacle Hills Parkway. The show is 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Evenson, who has two children attending Benton County Sunshine School, will exhibit a special line of art. She will donate 30 percent sales to the school.

Another line of art to be displayed and auctioned includes 14 collaborative pieces made from tissue paper painted by the children at the school.

Refreshments are by Ruth’s Chris Steak House and Liquor Mart & Wine Shoppe.
