100 YEARS AGO Nov. 17, 1909 NEW YORK — The big dirigible balloon, owned by Joel T. Rice and John A. Riggs of Hot Springs, Ark., met with an accident in an attempted flight early this morning. One of the propellers which govern the direction was broken by coming in contact with a rope.
