Officials Pledge Support For Local Military Personnel

— Officials from Bella Vista and Bentonville pledged to support local military personnel Monday at a meeting at Riordan Hall.

A covenant was signed Monday to demonstrate support for the 142nd National Guard Field Artillery Brigade, based in Fayetteville and represented at the meeting by Col. Keith Klemmer and Capt. Rogers Hinds.

Bella Vista Mayor Frank Anderson and Bentonville representative Troy Galloway signed the agreement with oft cials from Veterans Affairs and leaders of the American Legion.

Clarence Hill, the national commander of the American Legion, said the signing was “an extremely significant event.” He pledged to do as many covenant signings across the nation as possible to show a commitment to U.S. military forces.

“It’s a privilege and a pleasure to have you here. We as a community stand foursquare, shoulder to shoulder to you,” Bella Vista American Legion Post 341 past commander and current District One commander Norvil Lantz said to Klemmer and Hinds.

Framed copies of the covenant were given to Anderson and Galloway to display in the respective city oft ces.

An open forum format for questions was held for the approximately the 40 people in attendance. Many of the questions were medical in nature, and Veteran Service officers who were present assisted veterans with individual problems.
