FAYETTEVILLE A fundraising effort to support legal services for Arkansans who cannot afford them got a boost this week when the Wal-Mart Foundation and the Wal-Mart Legal Department announced a $100,000 grant.
The donation is part of a statewide fundraising drive kicked off Oct. 1 at the Washington County Courthouse in Fayetteville by the Arkansas Access to Justice Commission.
Through the grant, Legal Aid of Arkansas will create a medical-legal partnership to provide clients access to legal services on-site in clinical health care settings.
Legal Aid provides services to low-income Arkansans in 31 north Arkansas counties, including Benton and Washington counties.
In addition, Legal Aid of Arkansas and the Arkansas Access to Justice Commission will use the money to address issues raised by low-income clients, including family law, consumer practice, financial, housing and employment matters.
The Legal Aid Hotline is 800-952-9243.
