Tigers Return Plenty Of Experience

Posted: November 15, 2009 at 5:58 a.m.

— With four starters returning, David Ferrell believes West Fork could be prepping for something big.

The Tigers used a balanced offense to finish 20-7 and second in the 4A-4 Conference last season before losing in the regional tournament.

“We had five kids that averaged between nine and 12 points per game,” Ferrell said.

Ferrell will look for big things from 6-foot-5 junior Jared Johnson, who averaged 12.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 4.5 blocks per game.

Seniors Lee Gaeswitz and Isaac Muggy are also returning starters, along with junior Cody Cone.

Junior Johnson, Jared’s brother and a 6-2 senior who saw action off the bench last year, could start. In addition, junior Logan Genz will also see playing time.

Timmy Seaman, a 6-1 sophomore, also has a chance to play some, Ferrell said.

“He doesn’t play football and he’s worked hard this fall,” Ferrell said. “He can play three or four different positions and even step out and play off-guard.”

Good offensive balance and athleticism will be strengths, Ferrell said.

“We’re counting on playing seven to nine people,” Ferrell said. “We’re going to play a little faster. Even the big one (Jared Johnson) can run a little bit.

“Cody Cone, Isaac, Lee and Junior are all capable 3-point shooters. That’s what we want to do.”

The league won’t get any easier, Ferrell said.

West Fork finished second to Dardanelle a year ago. The Sand Lizards rolled into the Class 4A State Tournament undefeated before losing early. In addition, 4A-4 foe Subiaco Academy — a team the Tigers beat twice during the regular season — reached the state quarterfinals.

“Our league is really, really tough,” Ferrell said. “Subiaco returns everybody, plus they got a couple move-ins. Clarksville got some eligible and will be tough.”
