Program Changing Way Students Approach Reading

A goal in the Fayetteville School District is to have students reading on grade level by the end of the third grade.

That’s not happening. Yet.

To reach that goal, a reading intervention program called Read 180 soon will be implemented. At the elementary level, the program will be in special education classrooms. In middle school and junior high, the program will be used schoolwide for students at greatest risk of falling behind.

Read 180 is a combination of computer-based teaching as well as large-group, small-group and silent reading activities guided by the classroom teacher.
