Sunday, November 15, 2009
FAYETTEVILLE Pink bouffants, boas, bras and boots were among the many incarnations of pink donned by hundreds of Pink Trash Ball guests on Nov. 6 at George’s Majestic Lounge in Fayetteville.
The third annual event to “trash” breast cancer raised more than $29,000 for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Ozark Affiliate.
Memphis band The Bouffants, with their enormous hairdos, fit right in the crowd that did their best to dress their trashiest.
The buffet provided by Western Sizzlin included a selection of little smokies prepared in a variety of sauces.
The Ozark Affiliate made grants totaling approximately $5 million to 13 area organizations in the last year to help uninsured and underinsured patients with breast cancer screenings and treatments.
Those trashing breast cancer included Race for the Cure 2010 Chairman Chad Sullivan, Sissy Pederson, Andrea Stanley, Casey Cowan, Lana Kestner, Connie McGill, Gracie Terrell and Travis Williams.
More than 200 LifeSource supporters supped on soup at the annual Empty Bowls fundraiser presented by the Boston Mountain Potters Association on Tuesday evening.
The teaching kitchen at Nibbles Academy of Cooking in Fayetteville was filled with huge pots emitting delicious aromas from the soups, stews, bisques and gumbos created for the event.
Area restaurants blended scores of ingredients to offer soups such as roasted turkey with vegetables and spices from Nibbles Academy of Cooking, tomato Florentine with gorgonzola croutons from Cafe Rue Orleans, tomato pesto from Greenhouse Grille and shrimp bisque from Mermaids.
Those with brimming bowls included Carol and Ted Borgstadt, Debbie and Bruce Johanson, Shirley and Eddie Conduff, Suzie Stephens and Jim Hatfield, Irasema Ritter, Laura and Kyle Kellams and Helen Lewis.
The Ozark Literacy Council’s Open Book Affair - Literacy is Not a Trivial Pursuit drew more than 200 book lovers and literacy advocates to Fayetteville Town Center on Thursday evening.
While guests browsed the dozens of autographed books and memorabilia on the silent auction, they enjoyed dinner from Cafe Rue Orleans and listened to a performance from Opal Fly.
Board member Cristi Beaumont told us the Ozark Literacy Council “is about people” and shared a letterwritten by a man named Jerry, whom the organization had taught to read and write. Jerry is currently working toward his General Educational Development degree.
