Voters in the Goshen Volunteer Fire Department’s service area will decide Feb. 9 if they want annual membership dues placed on their property tax bills.

The Washington County Election Committee on Thursday approved three polling places for the special election— the Goshen Community Building, Northeast Baptist Church and the Nob Hill Fire Department.

Voters from Goshen and Goshen Township will go to the Goshen Community Building, said Washington County Election Coordinator Jennifer Price,

Most voters in Prairie Townships 1A and 1B will go to the Northeast Southern Baptist Church at 2578 N. Zion Road, she said. A few voters in these townships are covered by the Fayetteville Fire Department, she said.

A few voters in Wyman Township will be notified by mail of which polling place to vote, she said. Some Richland Township voters will go to Goshen, she said.

Anyone who does not know where whether they are in the Goshen Fire Department’s service area or where to vote can contact the county clerk’s office at 444-1711, she said.

The Goshen Fire Chief Nathan Wood said he expects that if voters approve adding the voluntary annual dues of $65 to the tax bill, it will increase the number of people who pay it. The approach has worked to increase revenue elsewhere, officials said.
