— A justice of the peace from Springdale on Thursday thanked Decision Point Executive Director Tim Summers for the work his organization does to help veterans battling substance abuse.

“It’s a great deal you are doing. I appreciate it,” Rex Bailey said one day after Veterans Day, which honors the men and women who have served this country’s armed forces.

The Washington County Quorum Court approved a resolution to apply for an Arkansas Rural Development Commission for $47,376 grant on behalf of Decision Point.

The money will be used to remodel the Decision Point facility in Springdale and make it more energy efficient and reduce utility costs. This building, constructed in 1958, was formerly the First Baptist Church at 301 Holcomb St., Summers said.

Decision Point has provided alcohol and drug treatment services for many years has resulted in changing thousands of lives one day at a time, according to its Web site.

“We work with about 100 clients. The need is big,” Summers said “We do our best and do appreciate your support.”

Decision Point serves Washington, Benton and Carroll counties, said Summers, who is also a Republican state representative from Bentonville and a former Benton County justice of the peace.

Bailey, also a veteran, said Decision Point helps veterans who are seeking help by transporting them for treatment at the Veterans hospital and then providing residential services.

The agency offers other substance abuse services for other patients and also has facilities in Bentonville and Berryville, according to its Web site.

In other business, the Quorum Court:

w Tabled an ordinance to allow the planning board to reconsider conditions of approval if no appeal is filed. Officials said wording in the proposed ordinance appears to be impacted by a recent state Supreme Court opinion.

w Approved an ordinance finalizing the millage requests from the county and its cities and schools districts.

w Heard that proposed design for the planned new coroner’s building is being changed to be more energy efficient, practical and easy to expand.
