Holocaust Remembrance Conference Set For Friday
Posted: November 12, 2009 at 4:43 a.m.
The Jones Center for Families in Springdale will host its 18th Holocaust Remembrance Conference for schools and community members from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday.
The title for the conference is “Why? An Attempt to Answer Perplexing Questions About the Holocaust.”
Grace Donoho, Jones Center director of education, said the conference is sponsored by the Arkansas Holocaust Education Committee. Preregistration is required for attendees.
Springdale’s two high schools will be represented, and schools from across the state are also sending students and staff members, she said. In addition, some schools from other states, such as Florida, are sending people to the conference.
“We have 380 people attending,” Donoho said.
Eva and Ken Widle, of St. Louis, will speak to attendees in the morning. The Wildes were German Jewish children whose parents sent them away via the “Kindertransport” because of the ever-increasing threats to Jews in the late 1930s.
The afternoon will include breakout sessions led by Holocaust scholars.
