Couple recovering after husband attacks wife

Posted: November 12, 2009 at 6:12 p.m.

— A Siloam Springs couple is recovering at a Bentonville hospital after the husband allegedly stabbed his wife and then slashed himself Thursday.

Jorge Armando Tarin, 32, was found unconscious with a knife in his hand in the parking lot of Summerhill Apartments, 620 Arkansas Highway 16, according to a press release from Siloam Springs Police Department.

Tarin reportedly stabbed his 28-year-old wife, Marisela Tarin, in the throat and abdomen and then cut himself in the neck, the release showed.

The alleged victim fled her home and went to a neighbor’s apartment after she was stabbed.

The neighbor called 911 at 12:07 a.m. Thursday to report a suicidal person at apartment C14 of Summerhill Apartments.

Siloam Springs Police and Siloam Springs Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene.

Marisela Tarin was conscious and able to walk when emergency responders arrived, according to the release.

Paramedics treated the Tarins at the scene and took them to Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital.

They were later transported to Northwest Medical Center — Bentonville.

Marisela Tarin is in good condition at the hospital, and Jorge Tarin has been treated and released, as of Thursday evening.

What charges, if any, the suspect might face is uncertain.

“I’m not going to speculate what the charges are going to be at this time because an arrest has not been made,” said A.J. Anglin, deputy prosecuting attorney for Benton County.

Siloam Springs Criminal Investigation Division is now investigating the incident.

The police department would be responsible for issuing an arrest warrant, Anglin said.
