Charles Ivy

JACKSON, Miss. — Charles Barnett Ivy, 90, passed away on Nov. 5, 2009 at the University Medical Center in Jackson, Miss. Graveside services were held at Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson on Nov. 7, 2009.

Mr. Ivy was born at home in Bentonville on Dec. 14, 1918 to the late William Talbot and Len Barnett Ivy. He graduated from Bentonville High School in 1936; attended West Point Military Academy in New York, George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and the University of Arkansas, from which he received both his undergraduate and law degrees. He served our country as a lieutenant, j.g. in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. After his military service, Mr. Ivy practiced law in Northwest Arkansas from 1946 to 1950 and ran as the Democratic candidate for office in the U.S. 3rd Congressional District.

After 1950, Charles Ivy began his lifelong career as a petroleum leasing agent and later settled in Jackson, Miss. His career required extensive travels throughout North and South America, which inspired him to later travel worldwide. He enjoyed many outdoor activities, especially camping with his family. Mr. Ivy was a lifetime member of the Presbyterian Church. In Jackson, Miss., he was a member of VFW Post 687, the American Legion and the former Petroleum Club.

Charles Ivy is survived by his wife, Ada Fields Ivy; daughters Darlene Pearson and Dale Mobarak; four grandchildren; three sisters, Florence France of Fayetteville, Ruth Frits of Dallas, Texas, and Betty Stone of Prairie Village, Kan., and numerous nieces and nephews, including local residents Carole Westby of Bella Vista, Ann Boyd of Johnson and Talbot Ivy of Pineville, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Talbot Ivy and sister Mildred Ivy of Bentonville; and infant daughter Margaret Lynn Ivy of Jackson.

He was greatly loved by his family and many friends, who affectionately knew him as “Good-Time Charlie.”

Gary Hutcheson

SPRINGFIELD. Mo. — Gary Wayne Hutcheson, 60, went to rest on Nov. 9, 2009 in Springfield, Mo. He was born Sept. 4, 1949, in Centerton. He was simply known as “Hutch.”

Hutch graduated from Gravette High School, where he met and married his wife of 41 years, Paula Jo Keith, on Aug. 31. He served in the U.S. Navy. Upon discharge he attended the University of Arkansas and earned a BA in Education. He began his coaching career with Bentonville Public Schools in 1976. He coached girls basketball, softball, track, and football. He then completed his master’s degree in administration. He served as vice principal at Walton Junior High. His most recent position was facilities director at the Tiger Athletic Complex.

Hutch was a devote Christian and lived each day exemplifying his love for God. He was a deacon at the Bentonville Church of Christ where he dedicated his time and efforts as missions director. He made several trips to the Ukraine where he touched so many lives. Hutch led his life with God first.

He enjoyed photography, bike riding, carpentry, working on his beloved Volkswagens and pickups, being active in all kinds of sports, but he loved spending time with his family especially his only grandson, Raef.

Hutch was preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis Fountain, and stepfather Bill Fountain.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Paula, of the home; two daughters and one son-in-law, Sherry and Brent Stalls of Bentonville, Christy Hutcheson of Bella Vista; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Arnie and Susan Hutcheson of Sulphur Springs and Everette and Launa Fountain of Holiday Island. Gary is also survived by Paula’s family, which was his own. Paula’s family, mother and father, Hurshel and Billie Keith of Hiwasse, siblings, Alan Keith of Hiwasse, Larry and Regina Keith of Hiwasse, Sally and Carl Bennett of Rogers, and Betsy and Mike Meek of Gravette and first cousin Dan Taylor and wife, Shirley, of Powell, Mo. He is also survived by beloved grandson, Raef Daniel Stalls, age 6, of Bentonville; several nieces and nephews, plus a host of friends.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Bentonville Church of Christ with Walton Hook and John Dyas officiating.

Burial, with full military honors, will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, west of Hiwasse.

Visitation will be 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday in the auditorium of the Bentonville Church of Christ.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bentonville Church of Christ Missions Fund, 904 N.W. Eighth St. Bentonville, AR 72712.

Ralph Peterson

BELLA VISTA — Ralph William Peterson, 89, of Bella Vista died Nov. 4, 2009 at Concordia Health & Rehab in Bella Vista. He was born on July 16, 1920 in Salina, Kan., to Carl A. and Lillie May Kerns Peterson.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a retired electrician who traveled extensively in the United States and Canada by motor home.

Burial was in McPherson, Kan.

Arrangements were by the Bella Vista Funeral Home & Crematory.

Geno Alpe

LAKE VILLAGE — Geno Oswell Alpe, 96, of Lake Village died Nov. 9, 2009 at Chicot Memorial Hospital in Lake Village. He was born in Lake Village on Dec. 12, 1912, to Silvio Alpe and Josephine Fredezzi.

He was the owner and operator of Alpe Wholesale in Chicot County for many years and an Army veteran.

He is survived by two sons, Dick Alpe and wife Gloria of Bentonville, and Terry Alpe and wife Denise of Lake Village; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister.

Visitation will be at 5 p.m. today with the Rosary Service at 6 p.m. at Griffin-Steele Funeral Home.

The funeral mass of resurrection will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church.

Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

James Hogue

GRAVETTE — James Matthew Hogue III, age 65, of Gravette passed away on Nov. 3, 2009. He was born Oct. 25, 1944 in Springfield, Mo., to James Matthew Hogue, Jr. and Wilma Nowell Hogue.

He was retired from the U.S. Army.

He is survived by two daughters, Shanon Hogue of Cleveland, Okla., Serena Sanchez of El Paso, Texas; a sister, Donna and her husband, Larry Perry, of Gravette; five grandchildren, Matthew, Gary, Andres, Haley, Alessandro; and a great-grandchild, Taylor.

He was preceded in death by a son, James Matthew Hogue IV.

Arrangements were under the direction of Callison-Lough Funeral Home of Gravette.
